METRONOME CANADA PROJECT (in progress)

By becoming a member of the Metronome Canada Creative Team in 2003, a new chapter has opened in Istvan Fujkin’s career. He contributed with his artistic talent to the designs of the future Metronome Canada, a one-of-a-kind “music city” featuring a National Music Education Centre and Museum, a cultural benchmark for Canadian music and an international attraction representing Canada and its contributions to the world of music.

As a Metronome Canada Creative Team member, Istvan Fujkin took charge of various designs for the Metronome Canada project. These include the inception and design of a Serendipity Music Sculpture Garden with a Musicland Playground. Music-themed sculpture entitled “Argus” is considered to be one of Metronome Canada’s symbols, and it will be placed at the front entrance of the main building. The sculpture is designed to be 2.5 m/ 8.5 ft. in height from base to top with a white marble lower part and bronze music armour. Music Totem Pole and the interior design of the “Rhapsody” Rooftop Restaurant and Bar.

“Mr. Fujkin has brought to life many unique design concepts and themes of a project dedicated to celebrating Canada and its contributions to the world of music. He is a profound visionary whose creations will evoke awe and wonder from all who visit METRONOME.”

"Argus" and the Serendipity Sculpture Garden
Argus is part of the sculpture park, and it is situated at the entrance of the museum as its guardian. The creations of the sculpture park and the surroundings together form a unitary ‘musical’ composition. Within this composition, some of the sculptures have practical functions as well, such as the drinking fountain and the throne.

"Rhapsody" Rooftop Restaurant and Bar
The uniqueness of the restaurant and bar is embedded in the design and placement of every single interior component which reflects the metamorphic reality of musical instruments. Every object, like in the case of the sculpture park, is part of a single composition..

Music totem Pole
The “Music Totem Pole” will stand at the very centre of the Metronome Canada Music Museum. The symbols of the three-storey high traditional totem pole (10.5 m/35 ft.) combine past, present and future through the use of three distinctive materials, rock, wood, and chrome steel. Various music bird creations hanging down from the upper floors will watch over the totem pole.

Description of Music totem Pole

Eagles
The hanging sculptures of the two eagles ‘flying’ high above the totem pole are closely associated with the composition and thus, complement it. The lightweight metallic character of the eagles and their grid-like structure reminiscent of a printed circuit board symbolically project the eternal, limitless and free rise of music.

1. The Owl
The owl is the telepathic communicator linking the sounds of the past, present and future. It is made of chrome steel with a printed circuit board pattern that symbolizes a turn towards the music of the future.

2. Thunderbird
The thunderbird is the omnipotent master of both physical and spiritual lives. It is the only being capable of holding these two worlds together and linking the music of the humans with those of the spheres. Its structure is based on deeply resonating mystical sounds. The organ, cello, and base guitar are predominant here. They symbolize the musical sound that fills and moves body and soul, the sound that evokes mystical experiences that can only be awaken by truly inspiring music.

3. Raven
The raven is the possessor of wisdom and might. It is the eternal judge of the adherence to the rules of the notes and of the place and time where concessions can be made. The raven as an entity is constructed entirely of the most basic acoustic instruments.

4. Killer Whale
The killer whale is the bearer of abundance and of the rhythm of the powers rumbling in the depths. Consequently, its form is based on the pulsating energetic electrical base sounds.

5. Beaver
The beaver possesses the knowledge of the art of building anywhere and under any circumstances. It is the ultimate master of binding different sounds together. This symbol is strengthened through its body which is built of various quality materials and different sounding instruments.

6. Wolf
The wolf is the possessor of rhythm and courage. Being a night dancer, it is constantly connected to the sounds of the night and day as well, and it is capable of keeping within boundaries the swirling wild rhythms. It pacifies and holds together the elements of the ancient and modern music. Its entity is proportionately divided between the ancient cult-like and the electric instruments.

7. Bear
The bear is the possessor of power, security and stability, and is aware of secret dreams. It creates a bridge between the sounds of different ages. It combines the spirituality of ancient rhythms and the contemporary wild swirling world of melodies with great attention and expertise. Its entity is based on the ancient shaman drum, and the simple electric guitar represents the transition to the modern instruments.

8. Turtle
The turtle is the carrier of Mother Nature, the safe and unwavering guardian of traditions. The stone shell is made of a ceremonial drum. According to ancient traditional spirituality it has four components. The metallic body of the turtle symbolizes its open nature ready to accept renewed sounds.
